Grade Calculator

Calculate a weighted final grade from category weights and scores (e.g. homework, tests, final exam).

How Does This Calculator Work?

The calculator multiplies each category's score by its weight, adds those together, then divides by the total weight — giving you a properly weighted average rather than a simple one.

Many courses weight different categories — homework, quizzes, midterms, a final exam — differently toward your final grade. This calculator combines up to three weighted categories into a single final percentage.

Example Calculation

Course Grade Example

Homework 20% (95), Midterm 30% (85), Final 50% (78).

((20×95)+(30×85)+(50×78))/100 = 83.6% final grade.

Tips

Weights should typically add up to 100 (e.g. homework 20, midterm 30, final exam 50) — but the formula also works correctly with weights that add up to any total, since it divides by the sum of weights used.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my course only has 2 grading categories?

Enter 0 for the third category's weight — with a weight of 0, its score won't affect the final weighted result at all.
